Kathmandu, February 12, 2026 – Nepal's tourism sector kicked off 2026 strongly, recording 92,573 international arrivals in January – a nearly 16% increase from January 2025 and 14% above January 2019 pre-pandemic figures.
India remains the top source, followed by China, USA, and Bangladesh. Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) CEO Deepak Raj Joshi attributes growth to better promotion, air connectivity, adventure/cultural appeal, and positive global image.
Despite 2025 protests, tourism rebounded quickly, with NTB declaring Nepal-ASEAN Tourism Year 2026 to target Southeast Asia. Arrivals from ASEAN nations rose in 2025.
The sector contributes significantly to economy and jobs. With elections approaching, stability could further boost confidence.
